Review: (#1, B-) Putting your cute pups up front is expected, featuring a dinosaur to establish the premise and creating a dense backdrop all benefit something that won’t likely turn non-fan heads.

(#2, C+) Lots of little details, plenty of characters but an oppressively yellow-orange flatness, which is not appealing for a computer-animated movie.

(#3-#13, B-) By zooming in close to these cute, fuzzy little animals, the character posters do just enough work to celebrate their child-friendly attitude but not enough with the barely identifiable background shots to generate a lot of excitement. (#14, C+) This D-Box design eschews bountiful detail for a simplistic stacking option for the characters and some of the colors are too similar and blend in poorly. The minimal background detail for the setting is also disappointing. (#15, C+) Another semi-stacked design, this time arrayed in columns providing even less background space but allows the figures to stand out more prominently. (#16-#24, C) Shifting the character posters to the human characters brings the camera out some to allow more background detail but lack the cuteness of the prior character poster set. These just feel underwhelming.

Trailer Rating: C / C+

Review: (#1, C) It’s the kind of generic trailer you would expect for a kids series in its latest big screen outings. There’s cheesy dialogue, adorable dogs, and a lack of adult-friend elements that will keep the film from matching Pixar’s broad-demographic appeal.

(#2, C+) Giving out the entire film’s premise and plotting and direction is dangerous but for fans of this series, I doubt there’s much on display that won’t excite them even if it won’t appeal to anyone else.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
