Review: (#1, C+) This design has only one purpose to excite fans of Godzilla Minus One. There’s not much here and while the blue electrical arc shading does suggest the beast below, there’s just not enough here to be visually compelling.

(#2, B-) Tied back into one of the poster designs from its predecessor, Godzilla Minus One, this design features the information audiences will clamor for and creates a striking profile of a familiar monster standing amidst indeterminate carnage.

Review: (#1, B) Without getting much into the plot of the film, the shifting of Godzilla in location to New York City and rather than having the dialogue in Japanese with English subtitles, we have English with Japanese subtitles. It’s an interesting twist and might well be a thumb of the nose at Hollywood’s disastrous attempt to bring Godzilla to NYC back in the 1990s.

(#2, C) Ultimately, there is only so much information that can be provided about a Godzilla film that won’t pinpoint interest in a specific demographic. It has its fans but when a trailer is as mediocre and uncompelling as this one, even fans will feel they need to temper their excitement about the possibilities the film will offer.

Oscar Prospects:

The original film won Best Visual Effects so it has to at least be considered a contender for a nomination in that category, though a win might not be likely.
