Review: (#1, B-) Although it uses the standard red-white-black aesthetic of modern horror poster design, the way the car lights reflect off of objects and the figure in the road is quietly chilling. (#2, C+) While there’s something inherently foreboding about the frog-shadowed buildings lining the street and the monolithic skyscraper in the distance, the positioned zombies on the tops of the buildings along the side might play into the premise but look less than unsettling.

(#3, C+) The concept is clever enough but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The use of shadow to mask the origin of the zombies simply doesn’t look authentic enough. (#4, C) The bloody phone may add a level of tense expectation to the design but the poorly superimposed figure below the title makes the whole design look cheap. (#5, C+) The scene from the trailer already carried with it a dazzling visual weight but in poster format, it underwhelms. That’s likely because of the areas of blurriness surrounding the protagonist. (#6, C) There’s insufficient context in this design while the black-and-gold color combo works and the snow illuminated by the shaft of light has a certain visual strength, the overall design is too empty and underexplained. (#7, B-) The figure at the heart of the poster is barely identifiable and that gives the design a measure of epic scope both for the snowy setting. The blood-and-show Umbrella Corp logo adds much. (#8, C+) A not-so-subtle Dolby design that has some unnerving energy to the design but the beam of light that doesn’t appear to have an identifiable source hinders its creative flow. (#9, C) An abandoned organ bag, an upside down car, and a pursuing zombie say a lot without saying anything.

Review: (#1, B-) There are moments when the film looks like it’s a spot-on adaptation of the style of Resident Evil and then there are moments of creative energy (like the final scene running through the snow-bound streets) but overall, it feels modestly underwhelming, a film that doesn’t quite understand how to make a first-person video game experience feel more like a cinematic one.

(#2, B-) While not quite as elegant as the first trailer, we get more information about the plot this time around without ruining the suspense. It’s a solid effort that fans of the video game series will certainly find appealing but might not seem too exciting to others.
