Review: (#1, C+) The yellow-black era has been a nice change from the red-white-black era, though the lack of details makes it seem like an unnecessary shift. There’s simply nothing compelling about this design other than it stands out.

(#2, C) A cheap looking cut and paste job with a fitting but underwhelming central background and a lot of wasted space. A metaphor for the film, perhaps?

Review: (#1, B-) Since In the Heat of the Night explorations of the Black experience in the deep south have been infrequent but consistent. This trailer doesn’t present a story that stands out particularly well, looking for a more revenge thriller vibe than something like BlacKkKlansman. Still, this kind of movie will find an audience.

(#2, C) Perhaps producers should have taken the title more literally and tried harder with any creative means necessary to sell this violent anti-bigotry period drama. Other than trying to telegraph its premise to potential viewers, the intensity of the action doesn’t create a fertile enough landscape that could lead the film to find success.
