Review: (#1, B+) Getting out of the gate early with a full traditional poster design is a welcome shift from the teasing-friendly designs animated films tend to start off with. Most of the characters you know and love are here and the erupting volcano quickly and effectively conveys the setting. A solid starter effort. It will only go down from here.

Review: (#1, C) I will give credit to the trailer’s producers for not starting things off with yet another prehistoric squirrel trying to get an acorn. Sure, we begin to suspect that’s the case when the acorn is the first item thrown at the screen but after the squirrel, we get the main cast of characters and that alone sets it apart. Still, it’s nearly a year out and this trailer does create a kind of energy that might appeal to existing fans but it’s insufficient to build consensus in the marketplace.
