Review: (#1, C+) Sunglasses as reflective surfaces are a familiar trope in poster design but are generally well handled. This one works to the extent that it reveals the focus of the viewer but it doesn’t quite explain the dynamic between the two individuals. Of course, the film could support the idea that this father is manifestly attracted to his own child but it’s not an effective assumption, especially not with just a poster design to reflect it.

Review: (#1, C+) There’s a direct reference in the film to The Godfather. Until that point, the film’s concept doesn’t come into focus. That mention puts into mind something completely different and while that has some thrill to it, it’s clear that the trailer doesn’t know exactly how to make the film appealing or engaging. It looks like a stylistic mess without purpose.

Oscar Prospects:

Willem Dafoe could be a contender but this was supposed to release last year and didn’t so it’s not likely to be a nominee.
