Looking at the Weekend: Nov. 11-13, 2011

I’m torn between 300 rip-off and pointless Adam Sandler twin comedy to top the weekend, so I go with the bare chests and sculpted abs of the Immortals to draw the women and the fanboys to make it at least modestly successful.

Consensus

11-11-11: If Darren Lynn Bousman were to have boiler plate text, this would be it.
Immortals: The box office is no longer friend to the traditional sword-and-sandal epic. This is what you get instead.
J. Edgar: A big Oscar contender that must be on everyone’s radar.
Jack and Jill: When will Adam Sandler cease to be relevant?
Into the Abyss: Werner Herzog’s new documentary is earning strong buzz and could be a major documentary contender.
Melancholia: Its reputation, or at least that of its director, precedes it.
