I’m torn this week on which film will be number one. While Alvin and the Chipmunks have typically done well, this is the third film where as the popular Sherlock Holmes is only on its second outing. I’m giving Holmes the edge.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: No one seems genuinely interested in this film unless they were fans of the original.
Sherlock Holmes: It’s the kind of sumptuous feast that Oscar’s tech voters love, but we aren’t interested.
Carnage: It’s started to get lost in the year-end shuffle, but any film by Roman Polanski is considered a must see.

These Chipmunks are plagued. You should avoid them.

Thoughts

I still have a headache from the first one.

Thoughts

The Oscars and I both skipped the first two films, and we will both do the same this time.

Thoughts

I’ve been resistent to the film since I was resistent to the original, but I may one day watch the original on DVD and if I like it, I may pick up the sequel.

Thoughts

Sorry, but I’ll wait until they digitally resurrect Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, the screen’s real Holmes and Watson.

Thoughts

The first film picked up several below the line nods, so look for this one to repeat there.

This Roman Polanski film has a lot of positives going for it, so I’ll eventually see it; however, the theater is just too packed this holiday season to draw me out to this.

Thoughts

Hyped to death in the early Fall, this is the kind of film that will likely get lost, very lost, during the holiday season.

Thoughts

A very good play directed by Roman Polanski should be a very good movie, although it is fighting an uphill battle for awards.
