On Sundays, we list the weekend’s upcoming films along with previews of trailers and posters. On Wednesdays, we preview all of the upcoming new wide and limited releases hitting the theaters the coming weekend. On Fridays, we’ll now tell you what you should see. We pose two questions each week to our contributors and their responses are posted below.

Wesley Lovell

1. With no new wide releases this week, what films (one on DVD and one in theaters) would you most recommend people catch up with?
Source Code is one of the very best films of the year and should be considered before almost anything else (assuming you’ve already seen Harry Potter which is a more important film to see for anyone who’s a fan of the franchise. As for what’s still in theaters? If you can find Martha Marcy May Marlene, you should see it (if you’re ok with art films). If art isn’t your style, The Adventures of Tintin is what I would recommend.
2. Are there any limited release features this week that you would recommend (and why)?
The better reviews are going to A Separation, but The Iron Lady is guaranteed an Oscar nomination, so give that one first consideration from an Oscar-completist perspective.

I plan to see both The Iron Lady and A Sepration. The former is an easy recommendation for all the Meryl Streep fans out there. The latter I suppose depends on your pre-disposition to reading subtitles, but if you won’t watch a film with them you’re missing out on a lot of great stuff.
2. Are there any limited release features this week that you would recommend (and why)?
Any DVD on my Best of 2011 list. In theatres, War Horse, The Desendants or whatever film you wanted to see but didn’t have time to during the busy pre-holiday season.

A lot of the awards contenders you see popping up again and again are worth your time, but one small film I loved that you can rent (or stream) is Bill Cunningham New York, a wonderful documentary that is less than an hour and a half and well worth every minute!
2. Are there any limited release features this week that you would recommend (and why)?
A Separation is supposed to be one of the best films of the year.
