The OFCS has often run the gamut between popular Oscar contenders and eclectic films. This year’s selections were more towards the populist side than tradition, but names like Lars von Trier (Best Director nominee) and A Separation (Best Original Screenplay nominee) stood out as exceptions. As for Oscar correlation, their best record has been in Best Supporting Actress where they average a 4 of 5 correspondence. The other acting prizes, Best Picture and Best Editing near similar records. Try not to place too much on their picks for Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film or Best Documentary as none of these are particularly strong categories for the OFCS.
