We have four new wide releases to look at this week and they are accompanied by a limited release. Here’s what we are thinking:
Consensus
We agree 100% on the following:
Killers: Not an Oscar contender.
Get Him to the Greek: Not an Oscar contender.
Marmaduke: We won’t be watching it and it’s not an Oscar contender.
Splice: Not an Oscar contender.

ThoughtsElements of the film look amusing and the chemistry between Kutcher and Heigl doesn’t look too far off, but between this and Knight and Day, I would go with the Cruise Diaz pairing before Killers. |
ThoughtsLooks like more dumbed down nonsense from the director of Monster-in-Law and 21. |
ThoughtsThis film looks painful, with an unappealing cast and stupid jokes. |
ThoughtsI can’t stand Ashton Kutcher, so I’ll definitely be skipping this turkey. |

ThoughtsCommon frat humor that’s as shallow as any “chick flick” made in the last decade. It features no appealing performers and a horribly misguided premise. |
ThoughtsLooks even dumber than Killers. |
ThoughtsI haven’t been a big fan of the Judd Apatow comedies, but tend to check them out later just to see what the fuss is about. |
ThoughtsI wasn’t a fan of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and I’m totally sick of Jonah Hill. I might check it out on HBO if there’s nothing on, but otherwise I’m not going to waste my time. |

ThoughtsAttempting to appeal to the same audience Garfield was designed for, this movie doesn’t make a lick of sense, especially considering that the comic strip is a single-frame work, not the three-panel that Garfield is. |
ThoughtsLooks calculated to appeal to those who’ll go “aw shucks” at any animal story. |
ThoughtsI can think of nothing worse that sitting through this. |
ThoughtsIt looks worse than the Garfield movies. |

ThoughtsNormally, I love horror films with a social comment, but this looks like it’s struggling to be relevant without succeeding. |
ThoughtsLooks like another Adrien Brody time-waster. |
ThoughtsI’m not a fan of the overly gory horror genre, and this looks like one of the less interesting entries in the genre. |
ThoughtsThe trailers have been interesting, even though these types of films aren’t really my thing. I’ll probably check it out on DVD. It’s basically a non-contender for the Oscars, but it might be a finalist for Best Makeup. |

ThoughtsIt has the makings of an Oscar contender, but it’s early-June release hurts that. The premise certainly appeals to me, but whether it’s any good or not remains to be seen. |
ThoughtsCould be a return to form for Neil Jordan. |
ThoughtsNeil Jordan always finds interesting stories to tell, and this looks like it could be an interesting rental. |
ThoughtsI initially thought this would be a major Oscar contender, but it’s getting lousy reviews and the trailer is boring. |
