Commentary: When the original Die Hard came out, John McClane was a simple cop trapped in a high rise doing battle with terrorists. Since then, each film seems to be trying to one-up the previous without giving any comfort to the idea that much of what the original had was special and has since been lost. McClane was an unlikely hero thrust into a situation nearly beyond his control. The franchise just looks like a generic action film anymore. I’ll give Die Hard with a Vengeance credit for being better than I expected, but this looks painfully unoriginal.
