The British Academy of Film & Television Arts confirmed things we already knew and infused the Oscar race with a little more confusion than expected. Argo taking the prizes for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing have continued the film’s avalanche of late-season awards cementing its lead for this year’s Oscar. The same goes for Daniel Day-Lewis and Anne Hathaway, but a handful of other categories got a bit more muddled including Emmanuelle Riva’s win over Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence and Christoph Waltz’s win over Robert De Niro and Tommy Lee Jones. These victories suggest the support for the perceived frontrunners may have waned and we could be in for a few rather unusual selections this year.
