Another small update, this time with one new trailer and two new posters. The new trailer is for the adaptation of cartoon Yogi Bear and the posters are for Saw 3D and Disney’s Tangled.

YOGI BEAR

Plot Summary: A live-action/cgi hybrid adaptation of the classic cartoon about a talking bear and his young cub cohort who steal picnic baskets from unsuspecting campers.
Release Date: December 17, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: D
Commentary: It’s just as bad as you might have thought it would be. Having mined nearly every other animated classic they could (where’s The Jetsons?), they have gone to the classic Yogi Bear. The problem is neither Dan Ackroyd or Justin Timberlake can get the voices down correctly, which makes the movie come off as a shallow attempt to cash in on a noted animated figure. What’s worse is the trailer is not only unfunny, it lacks any sense of purpose or import and features some of the worst scenes you could imagine…and if this is supposed to be their best outtakes, I hate to see their worst.
Rating: B-
Commentary: Contrary to the trailer, the poster’s not too bad for an advertising tool. Lots of kids to look at, and since this is obviously a kids film, that type of audience engagement is effective.

Oscar Chances: I doubt even the Animated Feature folks would give this a look, certainly not the Visual Effects department.

SAW 3D, poster #2

Plot Summary: The seventh and purportedly final installment of the popular bloody horror franchise Saw featuring the righteous serial killer Jigsaw.
Release Date: October 22, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Previous Preview:
Saw
Rating: B-
Commentary: The only reason it’s inferior to the previous is that when looked at in 3D (you can find that image at the IMP Awards site as well as the prior 3D poster), it has a few proportion issues. Still, it’s better than a lot of what else is out there.

TANGLED, poster

Plot Summary: Disney takes the classic fairy tale of the tressed maiden Rapunzel trapped atop her prison tower and weaves its long dormant magic.
Release Date: November 24, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Previous Preview:
Tangled
Rating: B
Commentary: From the trailer, you get a sense of miles of strands of hair all over the place, so using that scheme on the poster is a solid one. That there isn’t more to the poster, though does make it hard to be exceedingly excited about it.
