Although 45 Years has the most overall nominations, a significant factor needs to be taken into account. Two of its nominations come from British/Irish-only categories, unique to London’s critics. Several films have that distinction. To signify those and what their actual nomination counts should be, I’ve put (*) next to each with their actual total in parentheses.
It shouldn’t be surprising that there’s a heavy favoritism towards native efforts (along with the fact that some year-end releases haven’t released and won’t release in the U.K. in time). Yet, even among 2015 U.S. releases, 45 Years has significantly better representation than it might otherwise have. Certain names in the nominations, like Tom Courtenay, Tom Hardy, Olivia Colman and Tilda Swinton wouldn’t likely be here if it weren’t for the slight bias.
