Tonight we have new trailers for Chain Letter (#2), 4192: The Crowning of the Hit King, and The Warrior’s Way plus two new posters for Tangled (#2) and Rio.
4192: THE CROWNING OF THE HIT KING
|
Plot Summary: A documentary chronicling the legendary rise of baseball player Pete Rose. Release Date: October 22, 2010 |

Rating: C Commentary: It must be time for the Baseball Hall of Fame again because we’re getting another fluff piece on disgraced Pete Rose. The Baseball Hall of Fame refuses to accept his candidacy for induction because of his illegal activities. Yet, every year, people come out of the woodwork to position him as a contender for the Hall of Fame. This trailer looks like just such a push and honestly, I would rather not read my trailers, thanks. |
Rating: C+ Commentary: The baseball stitching element is interesting and it seems to carry through to the title cards for the documentary itself; however, it’s not very creative beyond that. Of course, with such an image it may appeal to the demographic they are expecting: men who know and care who Pete Rose is. |

CHAIN LETTER, trailer #2
|
Plot Summary: Teens are slaughtered when they refuse to forward a chain letter as requested. Release Date: August 6, 2010 |

Rating: C- Commentary: Not that I don’t think the concept has potential and, if you’re a horror fan, there look to be some inventive killings hinted at in the trailer, but the lack of credible sound effects, poor audio balance and excessive use of the written word, audiences are more likely to be bored or convinced this is a cheaply made horror film and turn away. |

THE WARRIOR’S WAY
|
Plot Summary: Refusing an order to kill the last surviving member of a clan, an assassin finds himself hiding out in a small, Old West town where he hopes he won’t be followed, but knows he will. Release Date: December 3, 2010 |

Rating: C- Commentary: There can be such a thing as too stylized. This film looks like it pushes the boundaries of what’s stylish and still in good taste…and by pushes, I mean breaks them and keeps going. An entire film shot on sound stages with no real environments is a dangerous endeavor and this one also feels like it’s trying too hard to be a martial arts western. I have news. It’s been done and likely better. |
Rating: C- Commentary: It doesn’t have an intense, pull-you-in feel and that’s a key necessity for a film that looks like it’s trying to appeal to the hyperactive teen and pre-teen box office set. The poster is just too colorless and lacks depth. |

TANGLED, poster #2
|
Plot Summary: Disney takes the classic fairy tale of the tressed maiden Rapunzel trapped atop her prison tower and weaves its long dormant magic. Release Date: November 24, 2010 |

Rating: C+ Commentary: And now we finally have a workable one-sheet for Disney’s latest spectacle. And in traditional Disney fashion (which has now become animation standard), the poster displays the plurality of important friendly characters in a setting from the film, smiling, chipper and supposedly humorous. However, it’s just about as staid and trite as this type always have been. |
Rating: None Commentary: I don’t review placeholders. |

RIO, poster

Rating: C+ Commentary: It’s not a great design, but the promotional blurb about people being afraid to fly is at least clever. |
