A smallish update tonight with four new trailers and five new posters. The trailers out today are for The Four-Faced Liar, Kalamity, 127 Hours and The Tacqwacores. On the poster side, we have yet another two for Harry Potter, two nearly-identical posters for Monsters and finally a poster for 127 Hours.

Rating: B+ Commentary: I’m not sure what it is about this trailer, but it makes the film seem like it could be a good deal of fun mixed with an important message. The pacing is fast, but understandable, though some of the dialogue is a bit difficult to understand. |
Rating: C Commentary: Looking a bit too much like a poster that might accompany Grindhouse and films of its ilk, the poster doesn’t do a great job conveying the purpose of the film and isn’t as visually appealing as it could be. |

Rating: B- Commentary: I’m still not 100% sold on the film and its Oscar chances, but it doesn’t look too bad and spending 2 hours with James Franco isn’t such a bad prospect. He has proven himself frequently as an interesting and inventive actor. |
Rating: B- Commentary: I can’t really say the poster doesn’t use colors well, as it does. It also uses its space fairly well, though it does seem like the creators are trying exceptionally hard to make something memorable, which does hurt the poster a bit. |

THE FOUR-FACED LIAR
|

Rating: B- Commentary: It doesn’t seem as preachy as a lot of the new wave of indie features, so it may have something honest to say. Of course, there are elements in the trailer that suggests the film is simply an attempt to titillate audiences without an adequate deeper message. |
Rating: B Commentary: The image does a fairly good, if too straight forward, job of depicting the film’s general plot elements, which can greatly help entertain someone looking at the poster who’s already familiar with the film. |

KALAMITY
|
Plot Summary: Three friends looking for a personal connection at a party find themselves in the midst of a missing person case where one of them is suspected of having killed a girl. Release Date: October 22, 2010 |

Rating: C Commentary: Apart from the nice vocal music at the end, the trailer has far too many “look at how tense we are being” moments. It seems like they are trying to embellish a film that may be short in several important filmmaking areas. |
Rating: C- Commentary: A shattered world in red, white and black. It’s never thrilling, pointlessly chaotic and artistically bereft. |

Rating: C+ Commentary: A continuation of the first series of posters featuring the two “villains” of the film. They aren’t an improvement or degradation of the others, so they get the same grade. |

Rating: B- Commentary: At first glance, I was skeptical of the artistic merits of the poster, but as I looked more closely at them, I realized that they were both built on the same notion and it is a rather creative outlet for them. Adding the couple to the second image does not increase or decrease the potency of the whole. |
