After the stellar debut last weekend of The Secret Life of Pets, it’s hard to believe that after all the negative attention Ghostbusters has received that it will be a huge box office opener. Still, if it can pull in non-Ghostbro fans of the original along with a whole new, younger generation, then we might have a decent opening on our hands.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): I respect Paul Feig’s ability towards comedy, and while the trailers haven’t been great, I’m still hopeful. Peter J. Patrick (PP): I didn’t like the overrated original and am in no rush to see the even sillier looking remake. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Actually the trailer makes it look like a lot of fun. I know it has gotten bad word of mouth before opening, but it could be a fun summer flick.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): I can’t say the fascination with drug cartels exists within me. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Confusing looking drug trafficking movie based on real events isn’t likely to ignite the box office. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks like a typical movie about infiltrating drug rings, though Bryan Cranston’s performance may raise it a notch above normal. Still, it is hard to get that excited over another of these movies.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): Woody Allen hasn’t been very interesting in recent years and this doesn’t appear to change that. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Woody Allen movies can be hit or miss but this one look like a hit. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The critics make it sounds like lesser Woody Allen fair, but even that is often a step above what is normally seen at the movies. Hopefully it will be fine.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): There are myriad sci-fi films that have tackled similar subjects. This does not look like it will be one of the better ones. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting looking sci-fi drama with an emphasis on characterization. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It may prove to be a decent film, though it looks like a cut rate version of Gattaca and a number of other films.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m not a fan of the animation style and the story doesn’t look that interesting. Peter J. Patrick (PP): An animated feature about a boy with superpowers from the directors of A Cat in Paris looks like a winner. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does little to actually tell you what the movie will be about, but the creators’ earlier film A Cat in Paris was worthwhile, so I am hoping this one will be too.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer isn’t unappealing, but the story does seem a bit thin. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Former child actor Joe Mazzello makes his feature film writing and directorial debut with this simultaneous VOD release of a baseball comedy that sadly looks underwhelming. Thomas LaTourette (TL): A baseball comedy whose trailer shows few redeeming qualities. I doubt I will be seeing this one.
