Today, we look at three new wide releases (Morning Glory, Skyline and Unstoppable) and two new limited releases (Cool It and Tiny Furniture). (Updated 11/10/10, 1:35p)

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

Morning Glory: It’s a split decision (50%) whether to see it, not see it (25%) or be undecided (25%). We are also evenly split on its Oscar prospects (50%).
Skyline: Our contributors aren’t likely to see it (75%) and also believe Oscar won’t believe in it (75%).
Unstoppable: We can’t decide whether to see it or not (50%), but we’re for sure it’s not an Oscar contender (100%).
Cool It: No watch (100%). No Oscar (100%).
Tiny Furniture: Ditto (100%). Ditto (100%).

Thoughts

It has an entertaining cast and the premise isn’t too generic, so it might just be a little bit of fun. This is probably one of the most minor Oscar contenders there is this year.

Thoughts

Comedy from the director of Noting Hill and Venus could be another Broadcast News.

Thoughts

A great ensemble makes this film look like much more fun that it should.

Thoughts

It looks like your typical, boring Hollywood fare.

This minor tech Oscar contender falls into my sci-fi wheelhouse, but the alien premise and presentation makes it look more like a horror film crossed with Independence Day more than anything.

Thoughts

Looks dumb.

Thoughts

Looks like a pretty dismal science-fiction film. They just don’t make B-Movies like they used to.

Thoughts

Do we really need yet another alien-invasion movie? I think not. Especially one that looks like a crappy remake of “Independence Day”, but without any major stars.

There was a time when Denzel Washington had promise as an engaging performer, but his recent output suggest he’s in it for the money and not for the craft. This looks like Speed meets Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, neither of which appealed to me.

Thoughts

I will probably wait until DVD or Cable TV to see this, but it doesn’t look bad for a pure action flick.

Thoughts

Looks like a pretty dismal action film. They just don’t make B-Movies like they used to.

Thoughts

It might be okay to rent on a night when I have nothing better to do.

Thoughts

There are very few documentaries that pique my curiosity and this isn’t one of them.

Thoughts

Another documentary about global warming. Why?

Thoughts

Looks like an uninteresting documentary that borders on propaganda.

Thoughts

I liked this one better when it was called “An Inconvenient Truth”.

Thoughts

The concept just doesn’t appeal to me. It looks like more unexceptional indie fare.

Thoughts

Looks like someone’s home movie. Wait, it is someone’s home movie.

Thoughts

Another generic independent film.

Thoughts

Zzzzzzzzzzz…
