Review: (#1, C+) It’s not quite a Rapunzel theme, it’s suggestive, which doesn’t feel entirely out of the ordinary but it’s also a rather rudimentary effort with titling that’s difficult to read and image insets that feel limited.

(#2, B) A gothic stained-glass border is interesting and the positioning of characters like that in a typical stained glass window completes the aesthetic. It’s simple and elegant, though doesn’t have quite the creative pizazz one could put into such an effort (such as turning the characters into their own stained-glass elements.

Review: (#1, C+) While the trailer highlights the film’s adaptation of a popular source material does little to excite an unfamiliar audience by presenting scenes that seem confused or unimportant. While the storyline is conveyed, what is intriguing about it is unavailable to the viewer.

(#2, B) Looking more like the legendary Arabian Knights, this retooled version takes a slightly different plotline and fuels it with subtle (and often not-so-subtle) queer coding. It looks far more compelling than the prior trailer made it appear. It still struggles at times not to feel calculating but could be a worthy watch for those who can get past that.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
