Review: Creepy doll face. Check. Black background. Check. That’s it. This is a pathetic excuse for a marketing effort and suggests someone commanded a high price for substandard output, or they paid cheap for the poor result they received.

Trailer: C- / C+

Review: (#1-#2) The two trailers are like night and day. The first is a traditional trailer, but feels like a teaser, playing a specific set of scenes from the film in an order that doesn’t entirely fit. The second design is a full-fledged trailer with time-jumping events and plenty of impetus for an audience. The problem is there aren’t any real chills in either design, which won’t help the film overcome the weekend’s other major release even if the trailer does reference its progenitor, The Conjuring.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
