Review: (#1, B-) An overall interesting narrative evocation, this design is a bit simple but tells us so much about the love triangle at the heart of it. It’s effective.

(#2, C) I suppose if you’re a fan of tennis, this design might have some appeal but the drudgery of the effort is on-par with other IMAX designs and contains little worth getting excited about.

Trailer Rating: B+ / C+ / C

Review: (#1, B+) The tension, the soundtrack, and the shot selections all come together beautifully in this fascinating trailer about a love triangle set in the realm of competitive tennis. The characters all feel fresh and unique and that combined with the lyric quality of the trailer almost makes it look a bit different from all the other films with love triangles in them.

(#2, C+) The first trailer had tension, this second one has almost nothing. The triangle is weakly evinced and the manipulation inherent in Zendaya’s character’s motivation is superficial. If you see this and not the other, you might not care much about the film.

(#3, C) A trailer that only puts forth all the positive things critics have said about the film doesn’t add the depth or intrigue the designers expect, especially when their selections are a bit tacky at times and the pacing and aural accompaniment are haphazard at best.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
