Review: (#1, C) Too close up, the actors aren’t particularly well visualized, the premise is absent, and the lettering is hard to read, especially the serif font. The semi-Asian-inspired lettering is additionally suspect.

(#2-#3, C) Paired character posters without the character being identifiable is an interesting choice. The dichotomy of color is an interesting choice but the excessively bold titles and the lack of identifying characteristics aren’t going to be much of an enticement.

(#4-#5, C) A simplistic pair of character posters using the same color dichotomy as the prior designs, they are just still images from the film with a slightly out of focus title doing very little work to generate engagement.

Review: (#1, C+) Confusion is not what you want to generate with a trailer for a film like this. You have two appealing actors (Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson) in a quirky romantic horror film concept and nothing comes across as completely compelling or intriguingly situated.

(#2, B-) This second attempt to create interest in the film is a bit less confusing than the prior trailer and that certainly makes it look to have more depth but that depth isn’t accompanied by images that excite or entice. It looks designed to appeal to cineastes, which is a noble pursuit for an art film but they can handle things less esoteric.

Oscar Prospects:

There’s been some chatter of a return to the Oscars for Jennifer Lawrence but the trailer doesn’t look like something the Academy would honor but that was also true of The Substance, so she at least has a chance.
