Review: (#1, C+) When you see this shock of color, it is meant to remind you of some compelling designs of the past where a type of chiaroscuro lighting design is used to highlight a sultry pose. Unfortunately, the use of black, red, and white are more reminiscent of horror designs than psycho-sexual thrillers or sexy romantic dramas and that makes this a poor fit for the film.

Review: (#1, C+) At a time when eroticism was relatively taboo, French author Emmanuelle Arsan wrote an erotic novel about her fantasies of sleeping with men and women. The first attempted adaptation was in 1974 and this is the second. It’s unclear why it’s taken 50 years to tackle the subject matter but this trailer might suggest why. It’s hard to convey to the audience what the film is about. That makes it difficult to sell to potential viewers. The eroticism comes through well enough but the mediocre conveyance of the plot makes it difficult to sell.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
