Review: (#1, C+) This poster does more to explain the title than any of the trailers so far. It’s cheaply produced with a lot of wasted space but it’s sufficient.

Trailer Rating: C+ / C+

Review: (#1, C+) Apart from a treasure of terrific actors doing strong work, the narrative doesn’t quite come across as something unique or interesting. Jarmusch doesn’t typically make films that look this surrealist-tinged but that makes it even more of a tough sell to audiences who aren’t going to find the presentation appealing.

(#2, C+) There’s not much that’s new in this trailer. The cuts between the three sets of relatives don’t help explain what the film’s about but it gives the actors a chance to show a little of what they are made of. Ultimately, this trailer won’t do a lot to goose attendance but with Jim Jarmusch, it’s not about the trailer. Those who know will know. A few who like these actors individually might stop to check it out but not likely because of this preview.

Oscar Prospects:

With the Venice festival prize under its belt, it could be a contender. That said, Jim Jarmusch has long been well regarded but has never been an Academy favorite.
