Poster: B- / F / C / C+ / C / C (4)

Review: Disney won’t let this obvious placeholder stand even though it’s a very beautiful design. It just doesn’t say anything about the film it represents.

I’m dumping several images together in this review (all but the first) as there isn’t much variance between them. The second poster is a clear rip-off of the Scrat shorts from the Ice Age franchise, which makes it a rather pathetic design even if attempting to be tongue-in-cheek. The next few designs are all fairly simplistic without the bounteous imagery that typically accompanies an animated feature poster design. That’s refreshing and also bland. The character posters aren’t even that clever.

Trailer: B / B

Review: It’s an amusing and diverting teaser that has nothing to do with the plot, but seems par for the course with animated features these days. Being funny at least gets base interests involved and the next trailer should be much better.

We finally get a glimpse of the film’s plot, but not enough to know what the villain’s motivations are or what the heroes really hope to accomplish other than stop it from being frozen. There are a few interesting bits of humor glossed over in the design and this trailer should go a long way towards putting kiddies in the seats, but I’m still not sure where the Disney excellence comes in.

Oscar Prospects:

As always, it’s a Best Animated Feature contender, but probably in no other categories.
