Review: (#1-#3, D) There are two things to note about this trio of designs. The first is that the fortune cookie concept is a bit too predictable. The second is that the design is cheap and unappealing. That neither of these concepts stopped them from making the design, better yet three of them, shows a shocking lack of awareness.

(#4-#8, D) Of this batch of character posters, the first three at least have something that tie them together outside of boredom but overall, the designs play into the prior trio’s unpleasantly dull aesthetic. (#9, C-) Limiting the empty space embellishes the design slightly but not enough to be interesting. (#10, C+) Whether it was decided that minimal was best or not, the effort isn’t a well handled one. The ugly, flat background colors are slightly minimized but they keep the design from succeeding. The cleverness of it is the mirrored inversion of the characters at the top of the screen but without the creative evocation that could have been made with significantly more effort.

Trailer Rating: B- / B- / B-

Review: (#1, B-) This feels like it wants to be the spiritual successor to Good Omens with Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, and Aziz Ansari alongside Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh. Unfortunately, the humor is weak and the situation a bit far-fetched, a weak attempt to blend the aforementioned series with various angel-centric films of cinema’s past (Angels in the Outfield, It’s a Wonderful Life, etc.). The tone doesn’t quite fit and the end result doesn’t look as appealing as it should with this cast involved.

(#2, B-) A few more laughs than the last time and the plot is clearer now but the It’s a Wonderful Life-style update still lacks something compelling. The characters seem vague and exaggerated and that limits its potential.

(#3, B-) The humor isn’t quite up to par from the prior trailer but the narrative still seems like it has plenty too offer. We’re dangerously close to the point of oversaturation with the premise in how its presented in three trailers but it retains just enough of its cheeky charm to entice.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
