Review: (#1, C) An oblique angle of what I believe to be the Brooklyn bridge is given a blue treatment with a logo that’s interesting when the rest of the design is not.
(#2, C+) Featuring Denzel on your poster is effective as is the creative title formatting but the background is cheap and the tagline, while appropriate, doesn’t excite.
Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1, C+) An early teaser for Spike Lee’s new joint, this trailer highlights the cadence of Denzel Washington’s narrative without allow the audience to identify the plot he finds himself in. There are hints and suggestions but they are too brief to form a competent theory. It might allow future trailers to be more intriguing but for a first teaser, it’s interesting if insufficient.
(#2, B-) With the audience finally getting a taste of the plot of the film, it could be a much better player with audiences than expected. The storylines is somewhat familiar but the pairing of Denzel Washington and Jeffrey Wright elevate the concept some though the typically fiery Washington seems a bit too diffused.
Oscar Prospects:
Spike Lee should always be considered an Oscar contender and with toplining Denzel Washington, you can expect the film to be taken very seriously.
