Review: (#1, C+) Forcing the viewer to take time to identify some elements might be disconcerting. It’s a nice effort to do something unusual, but the overall color scheme and balance feels disjointed and while that might play into the film’s style, it doesn’t make an effective poster design. (#2, C) If you recognize The Weeknd, perhaps it might intrigue you but this design doesn’t have much in the way of enticement. (#3-#5, C+) For character posters, these are quite unique but they might be a bit too R-rating adjacent to be shown in theaters. There’s also an excess of empty red space and that might draw the eye to the overdosed figure but it doesn’t have any creative energy. (#6, C) This takes what works from the first design and diminishes it to something that limits the appeal. It still has the oddness of style that fits the film but it just doesn’t speak.

Trailer Rating: C+ / C+

Review: (#1, C+) A confusing jumble of visually stunning scenes with the barest semblance of a plot. Perhaps fans of The Weeknd will find something to get excited about but the casual moviegoer isn’t likely to understand why this film was made or what about it should interest them.

(#2, C+) The first trailer leaned into the oddity of the plot but this trailer just seems like it wants to present as many different images from the film as possible without explaining what its purpose will be.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
