Synopsis:

From Apple Trailers: “Adam is a Catholic priest who discovered his calling as a servant of God at the relatively late age of 21. He now lives in a village in rural Poland where he works with teenagers with behavioral problems who fight and yell abuse. He declines the advances of a young blonde named Ewa, saying he is already spoken for. However, celibacy is not the only reason for his rejection. Adam knows that he desires men and that his embrace of the priesthood has been a flight from his own sexuality. When he meets Lukasz, the strange and taciturn son of a simple rural family, Adam’s self-imposed abstinence becomes a heavy burden.”

Review: A first look at this poster gives the vague impression that the film revolves around a priest and another man, which extrapolates to a homosexual priest being involved. This is never directly confirmed even in the trailer, but is an excellent interpretation of events.

Review: As with the poster, the audience never gets confirmation that there are romantic or sexual feelings between the priest and the young troublemaker; however, through eye contact and body language alone, the impression is easy to reach. While this concept may not appeal to a very broad demographic, it’s subtlety showcases two things: 1) that homosexuality is still a difficult and sometimes taboo subject in Poland; and 2) the film isn’t going to beat the audience over the head with its message, which may make it more appealing as a result.
