Review: (#1, C) This franchise has never done terribly well with its creative energy. This simply feels like a symptom rather than a cure.
(#2, C+) An action heavy yet dull design that barely tells the viewer they are seeing Scarlett Johansson, the obvious draw to the film. In a larger size, perhaps it would be more obvious. (#3-#7, C+) Format designs that are about as dull as you can get. Whoever designs these posters clearly doesn’t know how to do something engaging or exciting. (#8, C+) A better effort with ScarJo much better placed and with a dinosaur chasing a boat, it certainly does have the elements necessary to tell the viewer what they are watching and what they will be in for.
(#9, C) Another Scarlett Johansson-focused design with a strange, unfamiliar dinosaur in the background. There’s not much to see, though. (#10, C+) Were this an advertisement for a museum exhibit of dinosaurs, it might be fitting (and indeed is the best thing about it). Unfortunately, it’s not going to accomplish the intended attention-grabbing. (#11-#13, C) Three character posters that feature dinosaurs, actors, and a lot of poor PhotoShop work. They also don’t seem to represent familiar scenes from the trailers or focus enough on either subject of the design to be enticing.
(#14-#16, B+) Taking on the aesthetic of travel brochures, these posters have a compelling design that stands out against a sea of sameness and certainly make for an interesting effect. That they were isolated to specific cities is unfortunate but makes them collectable. (#17, C) This ticket presale design is such a waste of effort. The lower two-thirds is dull and lifeless while the upper two thirds just steals designs from prior posters. Nothing has any verve. (#18, C+) An IMAX poster that wastes its effort is par for the course and while there are action elements here, it looks like a tacky cut from a film scene that’s poorly grafted together with sunlight hitting different figures from opposing angles, which makes it not fit together. (#19, B-) It’s simple but it stands out from all of the other designs so far. Its semi-silhouette aesthetic is appealing if limited.

Review: (#1, C+) The trailer is surprisingly laden with lots of intriguing concepts and hints of action without overselling its hand. The built-in audience will surely give the film a go but those who weren’t inspired by the Jurassic World series aren’t likely to feel like a return to the setting of the original trilogy.
(#2, C) Reversing to a teaser seems a poor choice and there isn’t enough excitement in this effort to make the film seem more intriguing.
(#3, C+) With more details of the narrative at play and quite a few more action elements, the trailer focuses in on the raft scene a little too much compared to the jumble of other elements being used.
(#4, C-) The necessity of pointless teasers is questionable and this one is the worst one yet with too few images, too many plot detail revelations, and not enough of the central characters to genuinely compel.
(#5, C-) Another wasted preview that highlights a couple of action sequences without the tension or excitement the viewer might hope for. That said, it gives a better idea of what’s actually going on in the film even if it lacks the sensationalism.
Oscar Prospects:
Perhaps a Best Visual Effects nomination, maybe Best Sound. The series has been struggling to get Oscar recognition, so possibly not.
