Review: (#1-#2, C) These first two posters don’t quite make sense if the viewer isn’t familiar with the premise or the kink-friendly suggestiveness. They aren’t likely to create broad appeal. (#3, C) This one makes less sense than the prior designs. What it has to do with the film is unknown and thus makes this still shot a poor advertising tool (even if the Rottweiler/dachshund symbolism makes sense).

(#4, C+) Although it’s practically nothing, it does a better job than any of the prior designs at conveying the romantic core of the film’s premise even if it won’t make sense to everyone.

Trailer Rating: C+ / C+ / C+

Review: (#1, C+) For all the scenes and moments the trailer plays through, it still feels like it’s meandering through a story that doesn’t quite know what it wants to tell the audience.

(#2, C+) There are some interesting moments and some compelling conflict but it almost feels like they are playing through the entire film in a short span and that doesn’t generate excitement in the viewer.

(#3, C+) While this is certainly an atypical romance, positioning this as a Valentine’s Day movie seems ill-considered. While it does show some of the emotional elements of the film, it doesn’t quite reveal that it’s not your typical romantic dramedy.

Oscar Prospects:

Although Alexander Skarsgård has earned a few precursor nominations, he’s not likely to get a nod with such a hefty lineup in the competition, including his own father.
