Review: (#1, C) Blending the white bedsheets into a white background is well executed, this remains just a film still with no excitement.

(#2, B) An example of creative image engineering, the characters are arrayed into a unique cascade of increasingly smaller images inset at alternating positions. It creates an interesting effect that could have been better handled with a wider variance of colors but it stands out well against a sea of sameness. (#3, C) Unfortunately, we’ve seen time and again that designers have one creative idea and then abandon that for others with simplistic film scenes and underwhelming titling. (#4, C) It’s not always appropriate to position your characters at the bottom of a poster. It’s somewhat well handled here but also feels a bit lifeless with the bright white titling standing out but also overwhelming the rest of the design.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1, C+) Appealing as the actors might be in a film like this, the trailer struggles to find much about this family drama to excite audiences. The approbation of critics presented throughout don’t quite make the case.

(#2, B-) Giving the audience more details about the plot will help guide them to see the film but this trailer tries to confuse them by tackling it briefly and then just throwing in a bunch of scenes that don’t quite make the audience care to watch the film. Tossing in the acclaim the film has received won’t entice many.

Oscar Prospects:

Its festival debut was popular and Joachim Trier has been on the verge of major Oscar recognition for a few years. This could finally be the film that breaks him out entirely.
