Review: (#1, C) If you don’t look closely at this design, which most people won’t because of its flat coloration, you’ll see a crowd in the figure but that doesn’t tell the audience much at all about the film, which means it will require familiarity with the movie before making sense, if it ever does. (#2, C+) The design is certainly rudimentary but it has pops of color that draw the eye while the speakers of the background being used in a desert setting creates a measure of intrigue. (#3, C) Another design that requires familiarity with the movie be understood but which lacks the energy that might enable the film to find an audience. Being largely drained of color makes it easy to ignore. (#4, C+) Kudos for the thematic creativity of this poster, putting a small protagonist against a backdrop of massive speakers, it says something more about the film’s themes than other designs but looking at the trailer, it doesn’t seem to fit.

Trailer Rating: C / B-

Review: (#1, C) A confusing trailer that starts off by establishing the search for a missing daughter but never finds a way to present the narrative as anything other than well-trod themes with no sense of creative energy or excitement. The posters are more engaging than the trailer is and that’s a bit of a problem.

(#2, B-) The soundscape of this trailer makes it more compelling than it has any right to be. The storyline is poorly conveyed and while the setting and some of the danger is referenced, the end result is still a trailer that lacks the specificity to be groundbreaking.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
