Review: (#1, C) Uncertain why this design is trying to use the Americana color scheme but it feels out of place with the lack of compelling color combinations making the off-centered positioning look dull. (#2, C) Same color scheme, more shadowy appearance. While it’s meant to highlight the backstage nature of the setting, it does little to generate excitement in the viewer. (#3, C) Limiting the red and blue elements seems like a wise choice but the overwhelming white coloration with the subtle orange-pink hues isn’t an appealing substitute.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1, C+) The audience certainly gets the impression that this is an atypical biopic but there’s no narrative here to engage the viewer. The only people who might be interested are Hugh Jackman’s fans and that’s not an effective selling point.

(#2, B-) Selling a biopic about fictional characters and situations as authentic characters supposedly based on a true story, requires some finesse and while this film has some moments that support the energy of the “Sweet Caroline” bit that’s overused in the trailer, it also breaks into familiar tropes that once sold dime-a-dozen, forgettable TV movies. That’s not quite going to be a big seller.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
