Review: (#1) It’s a scene from the film, but one that lacks specificity or intrigue with an overbearingly large title behind it that draws focus away from the main image.

(#2, C+) That title is unnecessarily large while it distracts somewhat from the empty background. Selling the film on the stars might be efficient but it’s mostly dull. (#3, B) Reminiscent of 80s movies, the background has interesting details but there’s also a vacancy to the backdrop that makes it less interesting. (#4, B-) Fewer details, even if better spaced, does not improve the general design of the poster. The art is striking at least.

(#5-#6, C) The most interesting elements in these two designs is in the first where Gosling is using a shovel’s handle to hold onto the retreating vehicle. It’s an interesting concept. While both highlight the action elements of the film, only the former highlights this being the stuntman rather than the leading actor. (#7, B) Harkening back to the prior effort to reminisce about ’80s poster designs, this feels a bit more ’60s inspired rather than ’80s and that’s totally fine since it’s a unique style not used much in the marketplace so draws the viewer’s attention better.

Trailer Rating: B+ / B

Review: (#1, B+) There’s some mild humor here, but for fans of Ryan Gosling, this looks like the perfect vehicle for him. Emily Blunt isn’t well used in this trailer and hopefully has a much more dominating personality in the film itself, but the action sequences look engaging and that makes it look more exciting than it probably is.

(#2, B) The humor isn’t as refined as the prior trailer but the action and situations are almost as good. The plot struggles to come through with this trailer but it should still do a solid job of enticing viewership.

Oscar Prospects:

Perhaps Sound nomination, but these kinds of movies rarely ever make it to the Oscars.
