Review: (#1, C+) If you’re familiar with the original Naked Gun films, there’s something in this that will conjure up positive memories. Unfortunately, it also carries forward the designs weaknesses, including the mediocrity of the background elements.

(#2, B-) After the blandness of the first poster, this second effort is more appealing with added arms swarming the figures in a nice touch to the original films’ aesthetic.

(#3, C+) The only genuinely clever bit of taglining is the reference to AI, which is notorious for creating hands with one-too many finger. (#4, C) A cheap double-entendre with no appealing backdrop. (#5, B) The only design in this series that feels unique and interesting. It’s simplistic for sure but it pulls on the Uncle Sam posters asking for someone to join the military. It’s a clever deviation that improves over most of what else has been done so far. (#6, C) Another underwhelming joke that’s hard on the eyes. (#7, C) It’s meant to be clever of a man getting a piggy-back ride from a woman but it’s just crass. (#8, C) This French design doesn’t make much sense within the context of the film’s premise.

Trailer Rating: C / B

Review: (#1, C) While some of the trademark humor of the original films is here, they feel like a hollow shell impersonating something more interesting. I’m sure Liam Neeson will have a blast but I’m not so sure the audience will after seeing this.

(#2, B) While the first trailer felt like a bad homage to the Leslie Nielsen originals, this effort gives a better sense of the film and its familiar but well missed humor. A tribute to the zaniness of the Zucker/Abrahams comedies of the 1980s. It has all the expected sight gags and deadpan humor and finally starts to sell the viewer on the potential of the film itself.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
