Review: (#1, C+) It’s an interesting way to get the character photos into the poster but they are too small to be interesting and the backdrop is too dull to be compelling. (#2, C) While this painting ties into the painting aesthetic of the film, it doesn’t add much of interest to the film’s viewing potential.

(#3-#11, C+) Each character gets their own poster design and their limited facial expressions only highlights the dullness of the material the designers had to work with. It’s nice that each character has their own setting and seeing the film might give you a better appreciation for the details but it’s unlikely any of these will appeal broadly.

Trailer Rating: C+

Review: (#1, C+) While Wes Anderson’s films have sometimes felt very regimented and statically framed, this trailer looks all too stilted and underwhelming. The narrative is obfuscated and the use of the same actor titles at the beginning as at the end further hinders its creative energy. It’s like his Oscar-winning short film stretched to feature length and that’s not necessarily a positive trend.

Oscar Prospects:

You can never count out Wes Anderson. While a Best Picture nomination may not happen, it will certainly show up in the craft categories.
