Review: (#1, C) Too much sponge and too similar to Swiss cheese. It might be a swell teaser for fans but it won’t appeal to anyone else. (#2, C+) The Swiss cheese effect persists but this time at least it’s a more interesting concept of a design just with a bland backdrop.
(#3, C) When you want to show that you don’t care about your design and are just throwing things together to finish a job, this is the kind of design to make. An inexpressive background, a silly tagline, and nothing but piratey characters, the end result is something underwhelming. (#4, B-) An improvement over the prior designs as it tackles the premise with a little more detail. The background is still rudimentary but putting the villain in as the figurehead is solid maneuver, though the Titanic joke will result in an eye-roll from most. (#5, C) Eliminating the background doesn’t improve the image when the main characters are so large and screen-filling. It may play into the tagline but it’s not that funny.
(#6-#7, C) These character posters tie together poorly even if they are vibrant. (#8, C-) This close-up concept and the 3D/pirate aesthetic may have an interesting humoresque (you can’t process 3D images without two eyes) but it’s far too in-your-face to be appealing. (#9, C) A small bit of humor without commitment and a lot of empty white space. (#10, C) A Christmas bit of parody with too much vacant background. (#11, C) There’s not much to this and none of it makes sense with regard to the pirate premise (eyepatches don’t a design make). (#12, C) A tacky tagline, a lot of whiteness, and a figure whose appeal is pointless to those who aren’t already going to see the movie.
Trailer Rating: C- / C-

Review: (#1, C-) Fans of the SpongeBob will be intrigued by any trailer that features the titular hero but there’s nothing within this tepid, slow roll trailer that will be compelling to anyone else. It’s just a dull piece of trailermaking.
(#2, C-) Fans only for this latest big screen adventure for SpongeBob and his friends. The juvenile humor is largely forgettable and the storyline seems nonsensical but for those who already love the franchise, they’ll certainly be enticed even if they weren’t already prior to its release.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
