With Avatar likely to post a solid second weekend, Anaconda seems like the most likely to act as a counterbalance in terms of genre, though any of these choices could surprise with a second-place finish.

Anaconda
Wesley Lovell: A comedy horror with Paul Rudd? Could be a fun diversion.
Pete Patrick: Movie about the remake of a bad movie from 28 years ago – no thanks.
Thomas La Tourrette: There were some laughs in the trailer, but I am not sure that there will be enough humor for the whole movie.
Marty Supreme
Wesley Lovell: Although it’s a prime Oscar contender, it doesn’t look that interesting to me.
Pete Patrick: Will have to see for myself what all the hype is about.
Thomas La Tourrette: This likely Oscar nominee has not totally sold me with the trailer, but I am curious to see it.
Song Sung Blue
Wesley Lovell: Apart from not wanting to give Hugh Jackman any attention, this looks like a Hallmark movie with a cast with Oscar nominees.
Pete Patrick: Might be sappy but at least I will be able to understand the lyrics to Neil Diamond’s songs.
Thomas La Tourrette: I am a fan of Hugh Jackman, though the middling reviews make it sound like Kate Hudson is the true star.

The Limited Slate
Wesley Lovell: A lot of the last Oscar contenders are showing up and while No Other Choice looks like it might be fun, the others do not.
Pete Patrick: They all look interesting with No Other Choice and The Testament of Ann Lee exhibiting major awards buzz.
Thomas La Tourrette: No Other Choice and The Testament of Ann Lee sound the best, but that is mostly due to word of mouth rather than inspiring trailers. A couple others might be worth seeing but none look gripping.
