The second week of Superman is likely to yield solid numbers. None of these titles seem likely to overcome with Smurfs likely outplaying the others.

WIDE RELEASES
EDDINGTON I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER SMURFS

Eddington

Wesley Lovell: It might have something interesting to say about the current state of Hispanic relations in the U.S. and it has some strong actors in it but the trailer looks relatively underwhelming.

Pete Patrick: I am not a fan of Ari Aster’s previous work, and the trailer doesn’t convince me that this film will make me make me change my mind about him.

Thomas La Tourrette: This could be an intriguing film, but the trailer goes a little haywire and makes me very unsure of it.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Wesley Lovell: I never saw the original and the trailers don’t make me want to revisit it.

Pete Patrick: I found the original just so-so and this one looks even less interesting.

Thomas La Tourrette: It just does not look like my kind of movie.

Smurfs

Wesley Lovell: While I remember loving the Smurfs when I was a kid, this does not re-stoke my interest in them.

Pete Patrick: I’ve resisted watching the Smurfs for more than forty years, see no reason to take a look at them now.

Thomas La Tourrette: This looks like a terrible animated film.

LIMITED RELEASES
THE BANISHED FINALLY DAWN

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Neither of these look particularly interesting.

Pete Patrick: There’s nothing here I’m interested in seeing.

Thomas La Tourrette: The only one that looks like a possibility is Finally Dawn, and this film about the Italian film industry looks perhaps too over the top to be really enjoyable.
