Can How to Train Your Dragon duplicate Lilo & Stich‘s success? We’ll see this weekend when it tops the box office.

OTHER RELEASES

We are only looking at films that have had trailers released on Rotten Tomatoes’ trailer YouTube Channels. Below are some other films that are releasing this weekend that we haven’t considered.

Next Sohee (Wide)
The Life of Chuck (Expands Wide)
Meeting With Pol Pot (Limited)
Our War (Limited)
Prime Minister (Limited)
Sex (Limited)
Simple Minds: Everything is Possible (Limited)

WIDE RELEASES
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON THE MATERIALISTS THE UNHOLY TRINITY

How to Train Your Dragon

Wesley Lovell: I love the animated films but this seems misguided. If it turns out to be better than expected I might give it a try.

Pete Patrick: Live action version of the animated classic looks surprisingly good.

Thomas La Tourrette: It looks okay, but I am not certain why they felt a need to make a live action version of it.

The Materialists

Wesley Lovell: The cast is great but the trailers have been terrible.

Pete Patrick: This is a sappy looking comedy despite coming from Past Lives director Celine Strong.

Thomas La Tourrette: The charm of the leads will carry it so far, but not sure if it will make it to the finish line.

The Unholy Trinity

Wesley Lovell: A good modern western might be worth seeing. This isn’t one.

Pete Patrick: A not too compelling looking western from a director with a bad track record.

Thomas La Tourrette: It looks like a mediocre western.

LIMITED RELEASES
DIABLO THE DOGS TATAMI

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Only Tatami seems vaguely interesting to me.

Pete Patrick: I might want to watch the Iranian sports drama, Tatami at home but the other two are definite no’s.

Thomas La Tourrette: Of these three, only Tatami, a political sports thriller, might be worth seeing. Diablo looks to be a bad thriller and The Dogs a poorly made horror film, both are hard passes.
