A tepid animated film, a broad comedy, and a horror sequel. Although the prospects aren’t great, its likely to come down to a battle between Good Fortune and Black Phone 2. Ultimately, it’s more likely that Black Phone 2 will come out on top but Good Fortune will make it quite a competition.

OTHER RELEASES

We are only looking at films that have had trailers released on Rotten Tomatoes’ trailer YouTube Channels. Below are some other films that are releasing this weekend that we haven’t considered.

Thamma (Wide)
Truth & Treason (Wide)
After the Hunt (Expands Wide)
Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning (Limited)
KÖLN 75 (Limited)
The Man Who Saves the World? (Limited)
Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost (Limited)

WIDE RELEASES
BLACK PHONE 2 GOOD FORTUNE PETS ON A TRAIN

Black Phone 2

Wesley Lovell: It reminds me a bit of A Nightmare on Elm Street but without seeing the original, I can’t say I’m excited to see its sequel.

Pete Patrick: Ordinarily I’d say no to this week’s horror movie, but early reviews have been better than expected.

Thomas La Tourrette: It has good reviews but horror movies are just not my thing.

Good Fortune

Wesley Lovell: Some decent comic actors but it looks mechanical and forced.

Pete Patrick: Looks like something pleasant to watch on a day with nothing else to do.

Thomas La Tourrette: Decent cast but it does not look like a decent film.

Pets on a Train

Wesley Lovell: This looks like a low-rent animated feature with no redeeming qualities.

Pete Patrick: If I were 10, maybe, but I’m not.

Thomas La Tourrette: It looks like a pretty poorly animated film.

LIMITED RELEASES
BALLAD OF A SMALL PLAYER BLUE MOON FRANKENSTEIN IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT THE MASTERMIND

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: A lot of strong contenders this week showcasing that we’re in Oscar season full-time and there’s a lot of potential greatness on offer.

Pete Patrick: These are all films that should be seen by awards completists as they are all going to be in contention for major year-end awards.  It was Just an Accident has already won the Cannes Palme d’Or.

Thomas La Tourrette: Both Frankenstein and It Was Only an Accident could be major Oscar contenders so will be worth seeing. Blue Moon could be intriguing but Ballad of a Small Player looks more like a miss, sadly. Nothing about The Mastermind trailer makes it look appealing.
