Review

What if your parents has never met and you were never bornโ€ฆall because of something you did?

In a bizarre twist on the “It’s a Wonderful Life” concept, “Back to the Future” examines what it would be like if you accidentally prevented your own birth.

To help his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), test his new device, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) takes a seat behind the wheel of Dr. Brown’s “time machine,” a mechanically altered De Lorean.

When it reaches 88 M.P.H. and receives the right amount of power, it transports Marty into the past. 30 years, to be precise. When he arrives, his clothing and his mannerisms differ greatly from those of his contemporaries. He must get into the right outfit and try to act in the right way in order to fit in and prevent people from figuring out what’s really going on.

There’s just one problem: he inadvertently causes his parents not to meet.

The film follows Marty McFly’s quest to unite his parents-to-be and ensure that his own future remains in tact.

This is one of the best summer films that has been made and in recent memory, one of the smartest. It’s well known that if you wanted a quality summer blockbuster, you were more likely to get them in the ’80s than in the ’90s.

If you compare “Back to the Future” with the likes of “Armageddon” and “Independence Day,” you get a true since of how far Hollywood has strayed from its brilliant summer storytelling to merely rake in a few million dollars.

“Future” is not perfect, but it does go a long way towards getting there without falling short. It delivers non-stop entertainment and is one of the finest time-traveling films ever made.

“Back to the Future” is a film you need to see. Whether you’re 9 or 90, you will enjoy this movie. It’s old-fashioned entertainment.
