Tonight, we have new trailers for I Am, Limitless and Water for Elephants plus the poster for Prom.
WATER FOR ELEPHANTS
Plot Summary: An aging circus veteran reminisces about the most memorable circus disasters in history and how he and love were a part of it. Release Date:April 15, 2011
Trailer
Poster
Rating:B+ Commentary: It’s not maudlin or excessive. It has a simple elegance that suggests a movie that will either live or die on the script which cannot be adequately judged in the trailer.
Rating: None Commentary: I don’t review placeholders.
Trailer Link:Apple Trailers Oscar Chances:A lot depends on how it performs with critics and the box office. It’s a period film releasing earlier in the year, which doesn’t bode well for its Oscar prospects, but it could depending on how good it is.
LIMITLESS
Plot Summary: A drug allows a down-on-his-luck writer to access 100% of his brain power, allowing him to become an unlimited financial and linguistic powerhouse, yet it all comes with a cost. Release Date:March 18, 2011
Trailer
Poster
Rating:C Commentary: Other than to glorify drugs, what purpose does this film have? Is it a celebration of excess, power, beauty and fame? Is that really an important topic? It looks like a waste of time.
Rating:C Commentary: A three-pane poster with no spirit, style, originality or inventiveness. It’s about as commonplace as a poster that isn’t text-only could be.
Plot Summary: Filmmaker Tom Shadyac reevaluates his life after a near-death experience and begins a journey to discover what’s wrong with the world and what we can do to make it better. Release Date:February 2011
Trailer
Poster
Rating:D+ Commentary: Like his blockbuster movies, there is a superficial quality to this trailer that fogs up a greater purpose. From the lofty, heavy handed music to the hokey narration and quote selection, the trailer doesn’t work and I’m not sure that the movie will either.
Rating: None Commentary: None available.

PROM, poster
Plot Summary: A comedy about several high schoolers coping with the potential excitement and disappointment of prom. Release Date:April 29, 2011
Rating:B- Commentary: Frequently chaotic is not a descriptor you want to hear about a poster, but sometimes chaotic works if the concept is right. This poster almost nails the concept making the overflowing bevy of images fit, though the overriding color scheme leaves a bit to be desired and the central image is a bit too ’80s.
