I love Michelle Yeoh and I’ve heard wonderful things about this performance. Too bad the trailer doesn’t fill me with hope.

The Lady

Trailer

Rating: B-
Commentary: While it’s a perfectly beautiful image capturing the essence of a peaceloving woman, the design doesn’t have enough power to ignite a passer-by’s interest.
Rating: C
Commentary: As much as I’m intrigued to see Michelle Yeoh in the film, this trailer doesn’t highlight her skills very well. On top of that, the film is about Aung San Suu Kyi and while she is in almost every frame, there’s no depth to the performance, which seems at odds with what I know of Yeoh and what I’ve heard so far about the film.

Oscar Chances: It already had its Oscar-qualifying run and there are too many prominent women in the race for Yeoh to eke out a mention.
