Review: (#1) This design is too simple. It tells you what the film is about, but doesn’t do so in a very inventive or engaging way.

(#2) The versus effect done in such a clumsy way that it doesn’t really excite with a mediocre color scheme to boot.

(#3) The duality of the backdrop, upside down and right-side up, makes for an interesting aesthetic in this otherwise rudimentary design. (#4) There’s nothing much here, except a black-and-white IMAX design as dull as nearly every other IMAX design. (#5) There are nice colors here, but it’s a very simplistic design with images overlaying a section of the bottom third of the poster feeling overbearing to the rest of the design. (#6) Another black-and-white affair, this one far less interesting than the predecessor, but in a hard-to-explain way. (#7) The way the design is cut makes for a fascinating draw, but the black-and-white coloration is mildly uninspiring and the vacant light gray backing is too domineering.

Trailer Rating: B- / B

Review: (#1) Trying to get the premise set up is strong choice and the end result is interesting, but there’s not as much emotional investment in the story as there needs to be.

(#2) Not far removed from the prior trailer, this one gives a few more interesting bits of action with a couple of more salient plot details that give it some depth.

Oscar Prospects:

A Visual Effects nominations is the best possibility, unless this is one of Ang Lee’s best movies, and then it could contend in all the categories.
