With no new wide releases, it comes down to the battle between Meryl Streep and Iranian foreign language film A Separation. I think Streep will have the higher box office debut, but A Separation will nab the best per screen average of the two.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

The Iron Lady: Other than Streep’s performance, the film doesn’t seem to be building much interest.
A Separation: The word is so strong, people are taking it as a serious contender.

Thoughts

I’ve already seen this film. See it for Meryl Streep’s much talked about performance and not for any other reason.

Thoughts

Meryl Streep’s latest try for that elusive third Oscar looks to be an exercise in grand acting if not a valid history lesson.

Thoughts

I have little interest in this one, but it is looking to be a player in the Oscar race (at least for Meryl Streep).

Thoughts

The trailer didn’t really grab me, but the film has received ecstatic reviews, so it should be worth the consideration.

Thoughts

This well-recieved Iranian film could figure into the Oscar race in several categories, but its prospects appear to be dim aside from Best Foreign Film consieration.

Thoughts

The word about this film is so strong, it could sneak into the Oscars even outside of the foreign film category.
