Taking a lead in the race for the little followed Satellite Awards, Les Misérables scores quite well, including two nominations in Supporting Actress. This shouldn’t be considered much of a sign when you realize that Skyfall received far more nominations than anyone would expect from the Oscars and Argo and Zero Dark Thirty received far fewer than we might have otherwise expected. Of note here are the performances of Anna Karenina and The Sessions, which have been largely ignored this precursor season. The latter seems more like the kind of quirky nomination the International Press Academy tends to pick that has no hopes of getting much at the Oscars, still they kept the acting prizes in play for the respective actors.
