These winners will have little impact on the Oscars as the soundtrack category is all 2014 film releases and the original song category only has two nominees from the Oscars, neither of which are adequately comparable to the race at the Oscars. Since our contributors don’t follow the music industry, they have little or no input on these predictions, but we made them anyway.

GRAMMY AWARDS

Best Music Film

Amy (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)
My Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown
Sonic Highways
The Wall
What Happened, Miss Simone? (RU:Wesley, RU:Peter, RU:Thomas)
Wesley Lovell: The film is running away with all the prizes for Best Documentary. I would be surprised if it didn’t also pick up this one. Amy is leading.

Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media

Empire: Season 1 (Wesley, Peter, Tripp)
Fifty Shades of Grey
Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me (Thomas)
Pitch Perfect 2 (RU:Peter, RU:Thomas)
Selma (RU:Wesley, RU:Tripp)

Wesley Lovell: I don’t see how voters couldn’t pick Empire: Season 1. It’s a show with large ties to the music industry. None of the others have even remotely similar connections.
Tripp Burton: My guess here is that the popular TV show triumphs over the film lineup.

Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media

Birdman (RU:Wesley, RU:Peter)
The Imitation Game
Interstellar (RU:Tripp)
The Theory of Everything (Tripp, Thomas)
Whiplash (Wesley, Peter, RU:Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: With nothing but 2014 films on this list, it doesn’t tell us much, though I suspect the music-themed soundtrack for Whiplash will triumph, but really any of the others could.
Tripp Burton: I’m really not sure how they will go, especially since all of these scores are over a year old and don’t seem fresh anymore.

Best Song Written for Visual Media

Earned It – Fifty Shades of Grey (RU:Tripp)
Glory – Selma (Wesley, Tripp, Thomas, RU:Peter)
Love Me Like You Do – Fifty Shades of Grey
See You Again – Furious 7
Til It Happens to You – The Hunting Ground (Peter, RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: Without “Writing’s On the Wall” in competition here, it’s hard to know if a loss for “Til It Happens to You” will mean anything. However, “Glory” was a huge hit in its myriad live performances last year, I can see it easily winning here.
Tripp Burton: Last year’s Oscar winner should remain popular and timely enough to win one final prize.
